Dark cocoa • Forest bark • Caramel • Gentle smoke

Every memorable journey begins with a small decision to leave the familiar behind. Across the mountains of Myanmar, tea has travelled with traders, pilgrims, and caravans for generations, following winding paths between villages, forests, and distant borders.

Size

about 10 mugs or 5 gongfu sessions

This Shu Pu-erh carries a little of that spirit. Its gentle smoky warmth feels like a road you’ve never taken before - one that leads to unexpected conversations, quiet landscapes, and stories you’ll keep telling long after you’ve returned home.

BREWING GUIDE

The Rritual (Gongfu Cha):
bring your fresh water to a near-boil (95–98°C). Measure out 6 grams of leaves per 100 ml into your teapot. A mandatory hot rinse is required to flash-awaken the traveler's leaves, discarding the initial liquor. Steep the first round for 15–20 seconds, extending the time gradually with each subsequent pour. Over 6–8 infusions, watch how the initial campfire notes softly melt into a smooth, velvety chocolate profile.

The cozy mug (western style):
for a slow, comforting cup, place 3–4 grams of leaves into your favorite mug with 250 ml of 95°C water. Let the forest notes unfurl peacefully for 3–4 minutes to achieve a deeply grounded, aromatic daily brew.

The alternative (stove-top boiling):
simmer 8 grams of tea in 500 ml of water over a low flame for 5–7 minutes. This gentle cooking process concentrates the minerals, transforming the liquor into a thick, comforting, and deeply satisfying "savory soup" texture.

TASTING PROFILE

Body: draped in a distinctive, light smoky veil that elegantly sets Burmese Pu-erh apart from its traditional Chinese counterparts.

Liquor: rich, deeply saturated dark chestnut brown that pours clear, maintaining its beautiful rustic transparency.

Finish: pleasantly dry, lingering aftertaste with a subtle hint of woody bitterness, dark caramel, and evolving layers of rich cocoa.

FERMENTATION & OXIDATION

Wonder Caravan owes its rich, rustic nature to traditional post-fermentation, applying a wet-pile process (Wo Dui) modeled after classic Shu Pu-erh craftsmanship.

The large forest leaves undergo a highly monitored microbial fermentation for 45 to 60 days under the watchful eye of local tea masters. This living process breaks down astringent green catechins, rebuilding them into soothing thearubigins and theabrownins that eliminate sharpness.

Uniquely, the Burmese style introduces a slightly heavier roast over charcoal before the final drying phase, intentionally embedding that signature whisper of woodsmoke directly into the soul of the leaf.

STORY & SOURCING

Myanmar (Burma) shares its northern border with Yunnan, sharing a parallel tea heritage that stretches back thousands of years. This unique batch is crafted from large-leaf tea trees growing wild and semi-wild across the high-altitude Shan State.

What might surprise you - the leaves here are naturally larger than traditional Chinese Pu-erh varieties, which packs a dense concentration of ancient forest minerals.

Historically, this rugged harvest served as the legendary "traveler's tea," packed tightly into bundles to sustain nomadic traders and mountain caravans charting the ancient trade routes toward India and Tibet.

FOOD PAIRING

We always recommend sipping all our teas solo to appreciate its pure, unmasked character. But if you wish to pair it with a bite, choose mindfully :)

If you're pairing, try these:
- Savory dishes like grilled vegetables, roasted eggplants, or smooth hummus with sesame flatbreads.
- Dark chocolate infused with sea salt to beautifully elevate the subtle smoke notes.
- Rich, sticky dried fruits such as sweet dates and figs.
- Spicy Asian appetizers that harmonize with the tea's deep, savory undertones.
